Avoiding First Blog Pitfalls

While it’s true that your blog is a unique expression of who you are and what you have to say, like actors on the stage, successful bloggers cultivate audiences. The most broad appeal possible is where to start designing your blog from so be careful to avoid the pitfalls that narrow the field of potential readers from the outset.

Very good advices… And very nice blog. competent, smooth looking and remarkbly fast loading…

    Regarding the “avoid pittfalls”:

I have a WordPress blog and would actually like to limit the no. of posts shown on the front page to 4, in order to make the page load fasters. My recent posts are very long. I could also limit the number of pictures, but I don’t want to do that!

But I can not seem to find the option in “dashboard” where I can choose the number of posts on the front page.

I would be happy to receive a tip on that!

    Cheers, Anne

    Anne,
I’m very so sorry I lost your request for help somewhere along the way. If Jannette hadn’t poste to this thread I would probably not have found it at all.
Here is where you limit the number of posts on your front page.
Dashboard => Options => Reading scroll down to this:
    Blog Pages
Show at most:___ posts (After you insert a number in the blank be sure to click “Update Options” to save your change. And note that you can change this whenever you want).
Please accept my apology for the delayed response. :(

Hi. I would like to add my profile in the front page of my wordpress blogs. Any idea how i can do it?

  15. timethief April 12, 2007 at 11:08 am

Some themes have a default sidebar setting (Regulus and Misty Look are all I can recall) that place a small bio on the front page in the sidebar. However, if you change any of the widgets remember that as it’s a default setting this will disappear.

What I recommend regardless of which theme you use is to create an “About” page. Here’s the link to mine http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/about/ If you so choose you can also upload a photo into the page as well.

The third alternative is to create a text widget with the information and a small avatar in it and display it in your sidebar. Here are the instructions for that option

I hope this is helpful. :)
